Picasa has only been available for the Mac since January 2009, but it’s popular in the Windows world. If you’ve used iPhoto, Picasa’s feature set will be familiar; you can organize and edit. Oct 21, 2019 I too am (was) a fan of Google's Picasa. There new Google Photos is a pale comparison to the ease of Picasa. I have switched though to ACDSee for the mac. I used to use it years ago. It's faster than Google Picasa and it's database structure is similar. ACDSee is not free, but it's well worth the $30 I spent on it. Might be something work.

You can do that as follows:
1 - launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new library.
2 - go to the Photos for Mac User Tips and download this Applescript: Import Folders of Image Files into Library as Albums.

3 - with the new Photos library open run the script/app, select the folders to import and go. The albums will show up in the sidebar with the same title as the folder imported.
